23rd Annual Blessing of the Fleet
and Seafood Festival
Sunday, April 25, 2010 11:30-5:00PM
Why not give our local shrimp industry a little luck in the 2010 shrimp
season...join others in the tradition of the "Blessing of the Fleet".
This Charleston event will be held at Memorial Waterfront Park under the
bridge on the Mt. Pleasant side. The line up for the festival this
year has been "beefed up" with the following schedule of events that day:
11:30 AM - the festival opens with DJ Jim Bowers, 12:45 PM is the blessing
procession on pier, 1:00 PM is the blessing of the fleet on the pier, 1:45
PM is live music by Permanent Vacation, 3-6 PM the East Coast Party Band
jams, at 4:20 PM is the Shag and Shrimp Eating Contests, and finally at 6:00
PM the Blessing Of The Fleet Festival ends.
This year there are also a few other events leading up to the Blessing
of the Fleet. There is even a shuttle system this year which will pick
you at certain location s in Mt Pleasant.
Check out the shuttle map and line-up of events here.
With the main blessing held at 1PM , each individual shrimp vessel that passes through
the Charleston Harbor will be given an extra stroke of luck for the upcoming
season. The clergymen give the local shrimp vessels and
crew prayers of safety and prosperity in the 2010 shrimp season ahead.
Its not all business though, there will be plenty of South Carolina's
juiciest shrimp to be had! Make sure to have your appetite ready!
You will get your fair share of shrimp at this festival but, there is more fine food and bars for you to discover in the Mt. Pleasant
area. Make your way around
Mt. Pleasant's
restaurants and bars before and after "The Blessing of the Fleet and
Seafood Festival".
